It is funny how things come about just out of pure fun and interest or just trying to save money. Honestly, this inspired me to try to save money on an alternative project. As women, especially single women, we are ALWAYS looking for a trusted handyman (with diverse skills) to repair or build the things that we do not have the skills or abilities to do ourselves. Selection and hiring of a contractor is oftentimes based on referral, dependability, quality of work, and just as important, cost.

Unfortunately, in select scenarios, women are taken advantage of, and we are left in a state of WTF for incomplete or subpar services. Other times, the service cost is slightly higher and is what I like to call the “ladies price”. Like most situations in life, it takes specific instances to finally learn from those experiences.

 

After experiencing dishonest work ethics and a very hefty “ladies’ price” for a particular project, I told myself I can do this and more importantly, for one-third of the cost. Since I could no longer depend on "Bob-the-Builder", I decided that it was time to release my inner "Brenda". "Brenda-the-Builder" was more than willing to give it a try and complete the project. I completed the installation of luxury vinyl to my stairs (to match the flooring). As excited as I was with the process, I fell in love with this idea and my newfound interest in tools (I think I love them as much as I love shoes). I researched similar projects, gained more confidence, and became interested in resurfacing furniture. 

 

There are hidden gems in disappointments. I focused on my passion and expanded my ideas. I could now visualize the outcome and utilize both my educational background and project management experience to create Tish-Topped Shaped, LLC.  

 

Tish-Topped Shaped, LLC is a resurfacing service that creates a fresh look for your furniture and re-energizes your space with altered pieces (art and furniture). We specialize in countertops, flooring, wall décor, and flat-surface furniture and work to create unique designs for you.
